Description

"The documents contained in this work have a strange history. Both the American and British manuscript copies of the records of the international survey of the forty-ninth parallel, together with the final report of 7 May 1869, were lost for nearly thirty years. By chance Otto Klotz uncovered them in some boxes at the Royal Observatory at Greenwich in 1898 (see Otto Klotz's The history of the forty-ninth parallel survey... (entry 1635)." -- Lowther, B. J., & Laing, M. (1968). A bibliography of British Columbia: Laying the foundations, 1849-1899. Victoria, BC: University of Victoria, p. 155. "At head of title: Confidential. These documents were transcribed by Otto Klotz, who found the originals at the Royal Observatory at Greenwich in 1898, ref. Lowther. Pt. I contains information on the northwest boundary settlement, the McKenzie River District, Fort Simpson and Robert Campbell. Pt. 2 comprises Sir George Simpson's report on the Columbia River District and the northwest boundary, papers on affairs on the northwest coast including the Stikine incident, and the agreement made between the H.B.C. and the Russian American Company in 1839.
