Cover attached; cover title same as map. Grid of parallels and meridians is shown. Later edition of this map published by 播磨屋勝五郎Harimaya Katsugorō is reproduced in 北方領土 Hoppō Ryōdo, p. 52. Map of the disputed territories in the north, attempting to ascertain Russian and Japanese claims, compiled after diplomatic negotiations failed to delimit the frontier. Kruzenshtern's voyage of 1805 shown by black dotted line, Japanese voyages along Sakhalin coast by red. Legend deals with delimitation proposals, and with the number, purpose and condition of Japanese settlements in Sakhalin and the Kuriles. In line with the terms of the Treaty of Shimoda (signed 安政 (Ansei) 1, ratified 安政 (Ansei) 3), only the two southernmost of the Kurile Islands are shown, as those north of Etorofu belonged to Russia.
